Dads, we have a lot to be thankful for!  Let’s remind ourselves today just how blessed we are to be called “Dad.”

Ultimate Love

If your kids are little, chances are good that when you come home from work and open the door they run to meet you.  When you’re at the pool, they are delighted when you get in and play catch with them or play sharks and minnows or toss them into the deep end.  Your kids love you!  Even if they’re older and thus more sophisticated (and perhaps complicated) in their love, it will never change that they love you and they need you.  Whether your daughter is 4 or 54, you will always have a special place in her heart.  (See Meg Meeker’s Strong Fathers Strong Daughters.)  To be loved unconditionally, just for who we are – that’s an amazing gift!

Ultimate Companionship

Everything is richer and fuller because we get to share it with these little people.  And not just any people, but the people who are truly my people!  Everywhere I go I have a little posse with me.  I get to share so many fun experiences with these special kids who call me “Dad”!

Ultimate Authority

At work, have you ever wished that you had a little more authority so that you could change some things and make things better for the team?  Well, at home you are the CEO of the corporation called “Your Family.”  You have profound influence there to make things better, to build the culture, and to make it a place where your wife and kids can thrive.  What a gift!

Your President and Chair of the Scheduling Committee (aka, your beautiful bride) probably plays an even closer role to the kids’ wellbeing each day, but you are still in the Dad Chair and that is incredibly important!  Whether you are passive or controlling or somewhere in between, all of us Dads have the incredible opportunity to bless the little kingdom that God has bestowed on us.  That is a blessing!

Ultimate Legacy

Everything I do has an impact not only for my own short life, but also for the next generation and generations to come.  Everything is so much more meaningful because of the legacy we are building.  My hard work, my investment in my character…this will all live on long after I’m gone.  What an amazing fact!

Blessed Quiver

“Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them.” (Psalm 127)  Whether your Father’s Day gift this year was a tie, grill accessories, a Father’s Day card colored with Crayon, or whatever it was, we can be grateful for the true gift of Fatherhood.

Happy Father’s Day!
